Staycation Fort Ideas Your Big Kids Will Love
Posted March 12, 2021 by Fort Magic
What is a staycation? A staycation is a period of time in which your family stays home and participates in leisure activities in their home! Unfortunately, with most of the United States still shut down due to the COVID restrictions, a vacation is hard to come by right now. However, you can still have a great time in the comfort of your own home with a staycation! Everyone, including your kids and you, need a small break and ways to have fun. What better way than to plan a staycation and have fun with these fort ideas at the same time.
The first thing you need to know about a staycation is that it is meant to help you relax, not stress you out more. Throw out all the rules and the lists and chores. Take a few days to cut loose and just have a great time! A staycation does not have to break your budget or even cost you a penny, just your time and willingness to have fun! So gather the family and let them know of the plans to have your very own family staycation!
Staycation Fort Ideas
Now you may be wondering how a fort can help you with a staycation. This is where we come in to give you the best fort ideas during your staycation. With a Fort Magic Building kit, you are able to build forts of different sizes and that can serve multiple purposes. So while it may not be necessary to build a different fort for every activity, you can have fun all in one design. So pull out a few good books, some movies, your favorite robe, pillows, blankets, and anything else you need to relax.
1. Relaxation Fort
A relaxation fort is just what it sounds like a place for you or the kids to relax. You can use the basic building model to make a fort big enough for 1-2 people. Fill it with your favorite plush pillows and blankets. Add a good book and a drink and all that is missing is you! Want to heighten the experience? Grab your favorite pajamas and a robe and spend the day just relaxing with a great book and your favorite mini me. You can get lost in your book and even slip off into some sweet dreams as you relax the morning away in your relaxation fort.
2. Outside Fort
The next fort we will focus on is one for outside. You may not visit your favorite water park right now, but you can bring the water park to your home. Pull out the water hose, a sprinkler, slip and slide, and even the kiddie pool. Make your favorite fort and cover it with a tarp instead of sheets. You can lay out under the fort while watching the kids splash away in the water. Feeling a little hot under the fort? Join in the fun. Add some popsicles or homemade ice cream, and the day at your staycation water park is sure to be a huge success.
3. Movie Fort
One of the next staycation fort ideas we have for you is a movie fort! How fun this can be?! Pick a movie the whole family will enjoy, grab a basket and fill it with your favorite movie snacks, popcorn, and candy, grab everyone a drink and put them all in the fort. Now everyone needs some comfortable clothes, their favorite blanket, pillow, and a cozy spot. Leave the fort open on one side so everyone can climb inside and still see the tv screen. Turn out all the lights, close the curtains, and you have your very own movie theater experience complete with snacks and your family!
4. Game Fort
No staycation can be complete without having a friendly competition. What better way to do that than to turn your fort into a game fort. Bring in all your card games or board games you enjoy as a family. Maybe you all enjoy checkers and chess, monopoly, or a game of go-fish and trouble. Whatever games your family enjoys can be brought inside the fort for an experience everyone is sure to remember. Want to get more competitive? Keep score on a piece of paper hung from the fort. Get prizes for the winner. The loser gets the chore of cleaning everything up. Keep it fun and playful and your kids will love it!
5. Creativity Fort
The last fort we are going to explore is a creativity fort. This one can be anything you set your mind to! See who can build the most creative fort, who can use the wildest sheets, or the most exotic shape. Who can decorate the inside the best or who can make their fort function? Who can build the biggest fort? What about the smallest?
Once you have picked a fort that you can all get creative in, pull out the crayons, markers, scissors, glue, and construction paper. Getting creative is not over yet. Draw your favorite memories from your staycation. Dad going down the water slide, mom hiding her head during the movie, maybe brother eating all the popcorn, or sister snoring when she was supposed to be reading! If you can not pick just one thing you loved, draw them all.
Family Fun for Little to No Cost
A staycation does not have to cost a bunch of money for your family to enjoy it. It can be made of things you already have at home and things you often forget about. So pull out that Fort Magic fort building kit, that old box of games, and art supplies. Dig in the garage for the outdoor play toys and make the most of your time away from work. Sometimes the best things in life are free, and that includes spending some time with your family and making memories they are sure to remember.
